Job summary

Tucson Unified School District invites qualified coaches for Rincon High School to oversee interscholastic sports. Responsibilities include promoting sportsmanship, safeguarding participants, and supervising athletes across practice areas, locker rooms, and during games throughout the season.

Applicants must hold valid Arizona coaching/teaching credentials and NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, plus current certifications in concussion, CPR/AED, first aid, and health/safety training.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Teaching / Substitute / Coaching cert required with NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching at employee's expense.
• Must meet coaching requirements and maintain required certifications including concussion, health and safety trainings.

Job description

Summary

Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in student athletes. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants. Supervise students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses and at all times during the season. Exercise patience, tolerance and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials and spectators. Interscholastic activities are an extension of the classroom and as such, your actions, behavior and interactions with our student athletes should be reflective of this.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate OR Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate OR Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense) Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition to the above, all coaches (varsity head coach & assistant coaches) must have current certifications:

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention Training OR NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention certificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement) Current First Aid (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement)
• Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Requirements Prior To Start Date

• Bloodborne pathogen training after hire by TUSD Risk Management Department
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization

Effective: 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR

LOCATION: Rincon High School - 5th St & Swan Area

Season Dates: February 2027 into May 2027

STIPEND to be prorated for days missed in the sports season due to late starts or early terminations.

This position is temporary and not eligible for district benefits.
