Job summary

Tucson Unified School District is seeking a temporary high school coach to promote sportsmanship and ensure the safety and welfare of student athletes. You will supervise practices, locker rooms, buses and games, upholding district policies and respectful interactions with players, parents, officials and spectators.

The role requires coaching credentials and current health and safety certifications; compensation is a prorated stipend for the season with no district benefits.

Qualifications

• Coaches must hold valid Arizona teaching/substitute/coach certificates and NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching.
• Certified NFHS Concussion, CPR w/AED, First Aid and student health courses are required.
• Fingerprint clearance and suicide prevention training must be completed.

Responsibilities

• Promote sportsmanship and good character in student athletes.
• Provide for safety and welfare; supervise practices, locker rooms, buses and during the season.
• Interact professionally with players, parents, co-workers, officials and spectators.

Job description

SUMMARY

Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in student athletes. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants. Supervise students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses and at all times during the season. Exercise patience, tolerance and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials and spectators. Interscholastic activities are an extension of the classroom and as such, your actions, behavior and interactions with our student athletes should be reflective of this.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate OR Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate OR Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense) Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition to the above, all coaches (varsity head coach & assistant coaches) must have current certifications:

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention Training OR NFHSStudent Mental Health and Suicide Preventioncertificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-lineclassesare not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement) Current First Aid (On-lineclassesare not accepted;EMT license supersedes this requirement)

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

• Bloodborne pathogen training after hire by TUSD Risk Management Department
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization

LOCATION: Sahuaro High School-Broadway & Camino Seco Area
Season Dates: November into March
STIPEND to be prorated for days missed in the sports season due to late starts or early terminations.

This position is temporary and not eligible for district benefits.
