Job summary

Tucson Unified School District seeks a temporary varsity coach at Sahuaro High School for the 2026-2027 season. Promote sportsmanship, supervise practices, locker rooms, buses, and events, and ensure safety and welfare of all participants.

Candidates must hold an Arizona Teaching, Substitute, or Coaching certificate (and NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching); CPR/AED, First Aid, concussion, and mental health certifications are required prior to start. Stipend prorated for season length.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate, or Arizona Substitute Certificate, or Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific).
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate required (at employee's expense).
• In addition to above, NFHS concussion and mental health certificates and CPR/First Aid are required prior to start.
• Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card required.

Minimum Requirements

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate OR Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate OR Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense) Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition to the above, all coaches (varsity head coach & assistant coaches) must have current certifications:

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention Training OR NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention certificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement) Current First Aid (On-line classes are not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement)
• Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Requirements Prior To Start Date

• Bloodborne pathogen training after hire by TUSD Risk Management Department
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization

LOCATION: Sahuaro High School-Broadway & Camino Seco Area

Season Dates: November into March

STIPEND to be prorated for days missed in the sports season due to late starts or early terminations.

This position is temporary and not eligible for district benefits.
