Job summary

Tucson Unified School District invites applications for a high school coaching role. You will promote sportsmanship, ensure safety for student athletes, and supervise players across practices, locker rooms, and transport.

Your conduct and interactions should reflect the standards of an educational setting. The position emphasizes patience, diplomacy, and role-model behavior for students, parents, staff, and officials during the sports season.

Qualifications

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate or substitute/ coaching certificates as required for district coaching roles.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest are required or employee-funded.
• Current certifications in concussion, mental health, CPR/First Aid, bloodborne pathogens and fingerprint clearance.

Job description

SUMMARY

Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in student athletes. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants. Supervise students in practice areas, locker rooms, busses and at all times during the season. Exercise patience, tolerance and diplomacy in relations with all players, parents, co-workers, contest officials and spectators. Interscholastic activities are an extension of the classroom and as such, your actions, behavior and interactions with our student athletes should be reflective of this.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate OR Valid Arizona Substitute Certificate OR Valid Arizona Coaching Certificate (Sport Specific) AND NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate (at employee's expense) Fundamentals of Coaching Course

OR

• Coach Level 1 (If using to qualify for varsity head coach position in lieu of teaching/coaching certificate) Which includes: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Protecting Students from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest

In addition to the above, all coaches (varsity head coach & assistant coaches) must have current certifications:

• NFHS Concussion certificate Concussion in Sports Course ATC Student-Athlete Health & Wellness certificate (must review PowerPoint and sign a document affirming PowerPoint has been reviewed)
• Act on Facts Suicide Prevention Training OR NFHSStudent Mental Health and Suicide Preventioncertificate Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Course
• Current CPR w/AED (On-lineclassesare not accepted; EMT license supersedes this requirement) Current First Aid(On-lineclassesare not accepted;EMT license supersedes this requirement)
• Bloodborne pathogen training
• Current Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles) or proof of MMR immunization
