Job Summary

Coach Cleaners are responsible for cleaning seats, windows, ceiling, engineers cab, etc manually and with the appropriate cleaning products. Removing all trash from train cars, overhead racks, and bathrooms. Sweep and mop floors of train cars. Sanitize bathrooms by cleaning floor, sink, toilet, mirror, etc, and restocking supplies. Wash exterior portions of train such as windows, windshield, front and back of the train car, etc. manually and with appropriate cleaning products and tools.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Carry cleaning supplies through yard, station, etc. to work location.
  • Clean seats, windows, ceiling, Engineer’s cab, etc. manually and with appropriate cleaning products and tools.
  • Lift and remove seats from framein order toclean difficult-to-access areas (e.g. in between seats, etc.)
  • Remove all trash from train cars, including underneath seats, on overhead racks, in bathrooms, etc.
  • Lift and carry garbage bagsin order tocollect trash and other items throughout train cars.
  • Discardfilledgarbage bags from train cars for collection and disposal.
  • Sweep and mop floors of train cars.
  • Remove any substance adhering to the floors, walls, and ceiling of equipment with proper tools and equipment (e.g., gum scraper, rag, etc.)
  • Apply cleaning compounds to interior brightwork (stainless steel) and seat backsin order tomaintain appearance.
  • Sanitize bathrooms by cleaning floor, sink, toilet, mirror, etc. and restocking supplies.
  • Service lavatories by emptying bath chamber, refilling water supply and checking they are operating properly.
  • Wash exterior portions of train such as windows, windshield, front and back of the train car, etc. manually and with appropriate cleaning products and tools.
  • Operate equipment (Cushman cart, etc.) to transport and discard trash.
  • Notify Foreman of conditions needing attention or equipment requiring repair.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Rate of Pay

The starting rate for this position is$23.29(70% of the full rate).

The annual wage progression scale is as follows:Year 1=70% > Year 2=70% > Year 3=75% > Year 4=82% > Year 5=85% > Year 6=100%.The 100% full rate of pay is$33.28.

This salary is non-negotiable, based on the TWU Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Seniority

New employees will establish seniority in the Transportation Workers Union (TWU), the union representingCoach Cleaners, in accordance with the union's current collective bargaining agreement.

Members ofTWU are subject to an initiation fee and monthly membership dues.

Details Of Physical Activities
  • Regularly lift and/or carry tools and materials and discard in yards and on-board cars weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps to board equipment.
  • Walk along uneven surfaces.
  • Reaching, stooping, bending, and crouching to clean difficult-to-access areas.
  • Pushing/pulling to mop floors and open train doors.
  • Details of working conditions include, but are not limited to:
  • Works in yard areasexposedto various weather conditions or within limits of Grand Central Terminal.
  • Works around moving equipment and in proximity to medium voltage third rail.
  • Must be able to work various days, shifts and locations.
  • Exposed to dust, dirt, garbage, chemical cleaning materials, unsanitary conditions and blood-borne pathogens.

Selection Criteria

Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.

  • Current Metro-North employees must be in active service to be eligible for consideration.
  • Agreement Employees applying for a position outside of their present craft are required to have worked in your current union for at least one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline to be eligible to apply for aposted position and have completed the agreed upon formal training commitment, including on-the-job training or lock-in requirement, if applicable (for example Signal Trainee, Foreman-In-Training, etc.). If you are transferring to another craft, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present union.
  • Non-agreement employees must have worked in their current position for a minimum of one (1) year preceding the Application Deadline.
