Smith+ Nephew in Andover, MA is seeking a Systems Verification Engineering Co-op for a 6-month program. You will work with test engineers to generate manual and automated tests, report defects, and present conclusions to leadership.

You will gain hands-on experience in a regulated medical devices environment, contributing to embedded software/testing while learning mature evaluation and integration practices. Hybrid work flexibility is offered as part of the program.

At Smith+ Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The Systems Engineering Co‑op experience will consist of a robust induction plan followed by a 6‑month program across various facets of our Research & Development organization within the Sports Medicine Franchise at S+N. The position will be based in Andover, Massachusetts with some remote work flexibility. We offer a competitive co‑op benefits package. This role reports into the Systems Verification Engineering team and focuses on advancing the manual and automated testing practice at Smith + Nephew. The individual in this role will work closely with the rest of the team to apply mature evaluation and integration to the development of novel medical devices related to Sports Medicine.

What will you be doing?

• Work closely with test engineers and verification manager to complete specifically identified projects tasks including manual and automation test generation
• Present project conclusion to senior leadership
• Support ad‑hoc exploratory testing and pre‑planned integration dry‑run testing for systems and software pieces and report defects
• Generate, maintain, revise, and execute test protocols, and generating reports

Planned Start Date: January 2027 Program Length: 6 Months Location: Andover, MA

What will you need to be successful?

Education

• Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate Engineering program (junior or higher level) in Electrical & Computer, Biomedical, and/or related Engineering field at an accredited university.
• Major GPA of 3.40 or above preferred

Experience

• Previous internships or Co‑ops preferred

Competencies

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross‑functional team environment.

• -Strong written and verbal communication and technical writing skills
• -Analytical approach to problem solving.
• Experience in the medical device field or other regulated field
• -Design exposure to embedded software development
• -Basic understanding and experience with formal documentation processes
• Knowledge of statistical methods and tools (Minitab, JMP, R, etc.)
• Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint experience Completed Circuits Design and Computer Engineering basic classes Practiced using MATLAB or LabVIEW in engineering or science courses Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions utilizing an analytical approach to problem solving You.

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $27- $32 USD hourly. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job‑related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew.
