Job summary

Symbotic’s Hardware Engineering internship program invites students to design, prototype, and test robotics components within a fast-evolving automation platform. You will collaborate with engineers to create mechanical and electro‑mechanical solutions, gaining hands‑on experience with CAD, SolidWorks, and Python scripting.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in engineering (Systems, Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or related field).
• Familiarity with developing tests for integrated systems with hardware and software complexity, preferably robotics or automation.
• Familiarity with Python.
• Knowledge of robotics, vision, safety-critical systems, multi-axis sensors, localization methods, actuators, and control algorithms.
• Strong analytical, creative problem solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist hardware engineering teams with designing, documenting, building, testing and debugging of the latest technologies and engineering designs.
• Design parts for manufacturing processes using CAD, including machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, and fabricated assemblies.
• Assemble electromechanical assemblies and fixtures using hand tools and measuring equipment.
• Debug issues with mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems and components.
• Develop and execute robot motion scripts (Python) to control single‑axis movements and coordinate multi‑axis behaviors for tests.
• Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
• Contribute to design and implementation of PLC hardware and software systems.
• Inform reliability test plans to identify failure modes early in development.
• Conduct root cause analyses of system failures to support engineering development.
