Job summary

The Merc Co+op in Lawrence, Kansas seeks an experienced General Manager to lead all aspects of the cooperative, reporting to the Board and guiding strategy, operations, and culture.

The role oversees store operations, financial performance, and community engagement, with a focus on mission-driven leadership and collaboration with a strong leadership team to maintain a welcoming environment for employees and members.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of progressive leadership in grocery/retail/cooperative management.
• Experience leading managers or multi-department teams.
• Strong financial and business acumen.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Proven ability to develop teams and manage change.
• Experience serving in senior leadership roles preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization in support of The Merc's mission and strategic goals.
• Oversee budgets, financial performance, and long-term sustainability.
• Develop and mentor the Director team and foster accountability.
• Ensure safe, welcoming store operations and customer experience.
• Build relationships with owners, customers, local producers, and partners.
