Job summary

Responsibilities

• Maintain records in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines for Child Nutrition Program.
• Consolidate campus requisitions for accuracy and adjust as needed.
• Review campus requisitions for accuracy and adjust as needed.
• Obtain quotes for produce and food items as needed each week.
• Review the USDA commodity bulletin for recent allocations and make changes and/or substitutions to the vendor orders as needed.
• Prepare orders for food and nonfood items and forward them to vendors.
• Schedule delivery dates for food and non-food orders for all direct delivery campuses, department warehouses, and commercial storage facilities.
• Update the inventory matrix monthly to reflect current bid products and pricing.
• Train cafeteria managers on the use of the automates system and ordering process.
• Work in conjunction with the inventory and warehouse staff to make use of overstock and make adjustments accordingly.
• Communicate with commercial storage facility staff regarding stock levels and proper coding of items in inventory.
• Complete the transfer of items from commercial storage facilitates to the department warehouse.
• Prepare a schedule of requisitions cut-off dates and deliveries for campuses and warehouse.
• Attend meetings, in-services, trainings and workshops as requested.
• Coordinate with vendors on school food expo events and students’ food testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

Department Primary Purpose: To coordinate the purchase and delivery of all food and nonfood items as needed for the preparation of the school menu.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Experience/Knowledge: Three years or more experience in purchasing or ordering preferred

Three years or more experience in the field of school food service.

Knowledge of System Design automated software program

Ability to read and write English

Ability to follow instructions provided in oral or written form

Knowledge of menu planning and quantity food preparation methods

Working knowledge of public purchasing

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions

Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish

Working knowledge of computers and software programs related to business operations

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Ability to present materials to others

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Maintain records in accordance with federal, state, and local guidelines for Child Nutrition Program.
• Consolidate campus requisitions for accuracy and adjust as needed.
• Review campus requisitions for accuracy and adjust as needed.
• Obtain quotes for produce and food items as needed each week.
• Review the USDA commodity bulletin for recent allocations and make changes and/or substitutions to the vendor orders as needed.
• Prepare orders for food and nonfood items and forward them to vendors.
• Schedule delivery dates for food and non-food orders for all direct delivery campuses, department warehouses, and commercial storage facilities.

• Participate in the long-range planning process to ensure the efficient flow of the operation.
• Train cafeteria managers on the use of the automates system and ordering process.
• Work in conjunction with the inventory and warehouse staff to make use of overstock and make adjustments accordingly.
• Communicate with commercial storage facility staff regarding stock levels and proper coding of items in inventory.
• Work in conjunction with the department’s Accounts Payable clerk to initiate purchase orders for the procurement of items.
• Complete the transfer of items from commercial storage facilitates to the department warehouse.
• Prepare a schedule of requisitions cut-off dates and deliveries for campuses and warehouse.
• Cooperate with co-workers and staff to complete required tasks in a safe manner efficiently.
Attend meetings, in-services, trainings and workshops as requested.
• Coordinate with vendors on school food expo events and students’ food testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Attend any training requested by Region One and TDA.
