Job summary

Bird Johnson, a Fairbanks Morse Defense Company, seeks a skilled CNC Technical Lead to oversee daily shop floor CNC operations and translate CAD/CAM designs into efficient production processes. You will work with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to drive manufacturability and tooling strategies on complex parts.

In this hands-on leadership role, you will mentor machinists, optimize cycles, ensure quality and safety, and uphold lean standards such as 5S.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience with at least 2+ years in lead roles.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD security clearance.
• Advanced G-code/M-code programming and manual editor on multiple controls.
• Blueprint reading with GD&T proficiency.
• Experience with precision measurement tools and CMM outputs.
• Familiarity with NX, Mastercam, SolidWorks, Fusion 360.
• Strong communication and collaboration with engineers and management.

Responsibilities

• Guide CNC machinists on daily setups, tool selection, speeds/feeds.
• Identify cycles, fixture, and strategy improvements for efficiency.
• Set up and debug high-complexity CNC programs before production.
• Troubleshoot machining issues on the shop floor.
• Collaborate with Engineering on DFM and post-processors.
• Inspect First Article parts with QA and Engineering.
• Mentor junior operators; enforce 5S and Lean practices.
• Ensure safety compliance and quality standards.
