Job summary

Northeast Tool & Manufacturing is seeking a CNC Technical Lead to blend hands-on multi-axis machining with shop-floor leadership. The role supports 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts and aligns with aerospace, defense, and space parts.

You will coach machinists, optimize setups, enforce safety and 5S, and ensure part quality through GD&T and inspection methods. ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D compliance underpin every decision.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED with CNC machining experience and tight-tolerance work.
• Hands-on setup and operation on multi-axis CNC milling/turning.
• Strong blueprint reading, GD&T, tolerances.
• Experience mentoring CNC Machinists and Operators.
• Proficiency with precision inspection equipment.
• ERP/MRP systems and MS Office experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-shift CNC setups and operations for milling, turning, and mill-turn.
• Mentor and coach CNC Machinists and Operators.
• Coordinate priorities to meet production schedules and quality.
• Ensure adherence to 5S, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Act as hub between shifts and support Inspection and QMS.

As our CNC Technical Lead, you’ll blend hands-on multi‑axis machining expertise with mentorship and shop‑floor leadership to keep complex parts moving and standards soaring. This role is currently aligned to 2nd shift operations, and we are hiring across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.A day in the lifeSet the pace on the floor: perform advanced CNC setups and operations on milling, turning, and multi‑axis equipment (including 3+2 and simultaneous 5‑axis), resolve issues fast, and optimize tooling and processes.Guide the crew: coach CNC Machinists and Operators, reinforce best practices, and model a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Run the shift: coordinate priorities, track workflow, and help ensure production schedules, customer delivery needs, and tight quality standards are met.Be the bridge: act as the communication hub between shifts, support inspection practices, resolve nonconformances, and uphold our Quality Management System.Raise the bar: drive 5S, FOD prevention, equipment care, workplace organization, and shop safety while using metrics and KPIs to improve performance.What you bringAdvanced CNC machining know‑how across setup, operation, troubleshooting, workholding, and process optimization; strong in both milling and turning; multi‑axis (3+2/5‑axis) experience preferred.Proven technical leadership: mentoring, coaching, and on‑the‑spot problem solving for machinists and operators.Fluency in blueprint reading, GD&T, inspection methods, and precision measurement for tight‑tolerance work.Sharp decision‑making with the ability to prioritize, troubleshoot, and resolve production challenges.Clear communication and strong organizational and computer skills, including Microsoft Office and using production KPIs to drive outcomes.Required qualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED with years of CNC machining experience in manufacturing; precision/tight‑tolerance work strongly preferred.Hands‑on setup and machining of complex components on multi‑axis CNC milling, turning, and/or mill‑turn platforms.Solid command of feeds/speeds, tooling, workholding, blueprint reading, tolerances, and GD&T.Experience mentoring, training, and providing hands‑on support to CNC Machinists and Operators.Proficiency using precision inspection equipment to verify conformance.Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.Preferred qualificationsAssociate’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, Machining, or related field (or equivalent experience).Background as a Lead Machinist, Cell Lead, Technical Lead, Mentor, or similar technical leadership role.Experience in AS9100 aerospace or other highly regulated environments.Deep experience with multi‑axis platforms: 3+2 and/or simultaneous 5‑axis milling, multi‑axis turning centers.Knowledge of Lean, Continuous Improvement, Root Cause Analysis, and/or Six Sigma.Advanced GD&T and ASME Y14.5 training/certification is a plus.Your growth pathThis Technical Lead role provides a clear development pathway to formal supervisory responsibilities for those pursuing leadership careers.Not sure if you check every box?Apply anyway.
