Job summary

Wabtec in York, PA is hiring a CNC Shop Supervisor to lead the production department on 1st shift (Mon-Fri, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM). You will oversee CNC operations, drive safety, coach staff, and coordinate cross-functional activities to meet schedules. A strong background in CNC machining and blueprints is required.

The role emphasizes hands-on leadership on the shop floor, continuous improvement, and collaboration with multiple teams to maintain high standards and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience in manufacturing.
• Experience in CNC programming, CNC operation, and machining; able to read blueprints.
• Strong leadership to motivate and develop team members.
• Active shop floor presence; ~2/3 of shift on the floor.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for all levels.

Responsibilities

• CNC Operation: Set up full production cycle and operate CNC Lathe machines for turning, drilling, bar feeding, and live tooling.
• Department Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations, ensure safety, and enforce time-keeping and performance procedures.
• Employee Management: Coach and evaluate staff performance to boost productivity.
• Training & Development: Onboard and train new employees; provide ongoing skill development.
• Order Management: Prioritize shop orders to meet production schedules.
• Cross-Department Coordination: Coordinate with management and other departments.
• Workplace Safety & Maintenance: Keep machines and areas clean, safe, and compliant.
• Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for efficiency and continuous improvement.
• Problem-Solving: Resolve production or personnel issues promptly.
• Compliance: Adhere to policies, quality standards, and regulations.

Job Duties

• CNC Operation: Set up full production cycle and operate CNC Lathe machines for tasks such as turning, drilling, bar feeding, and live tooling. (Hyundai, Mori, Yugi, HAAS) Department Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures.
• Employee Management: Oversee employee performance, provide coaching and feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support team development and productivity.
• Training & Development: Assist with onboarding and training of new employees, as well as provide ongoing education and skill development for the team.
• Order Management: Expedite and prioritize shop orders through the department to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
• Cross-Department Coordination: Collaborate with management and other departments to ensure smooth manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly processes.
• Workplace Safety & Maintenance: Ensure the team maintains machines and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner, addressing safety concerns promptly.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
• Problem-Solving: Address and resolve production or personnel issues promptly to avoid disruptions to operations.
• Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies, quality standards, and industry regulations.

Requirements

• Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Technical Expertise: Experience in CNC programming, CNC operation, and machining, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to motivate, guide, and develop team members to achieve individual and collective goals.
• Shop Floor Presence: Ability to maintain a consistent and active presence on the shop floor, spending approximately 2/3 of the shift overseeing operations.
• Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with shop employees, office staff, supervisors, managers, and executives.
• Adaptability: Able to adjust to changing priorities and unexpected challenges while maintaining productivity and focus.
• Team Collaboration: Excellent team player with the ability to work well with others and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment.
• Safety Leadership: Strong commitment to workplace safety, with a demonstrated ability to promote and enforce safety standards and practices.
• Performance Management: Proficiency in performance management processes, including creating plans of action and conducting employee evaluations.
• Detail Orientation: Highly detail-oriented, ensuring quality and precision in all tasks and responsibilities.
• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other relevant software.
• Multi-Tasking: Strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the shift.
• Math Skills: Average math skills, with the ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English and complete logs, documents, and reports accurately.
