Wabtec in Salem, VA is hiring a CNC Setup Operator to program, set up, and operate CNC and conventional machining equipment to manufacture precision components. You will read engineering drawings, install tooling, adjust offsets, and perform first-piece inspections to ensure accuracy.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED plus technical machining training and at least 5 years of machining experience. Shifts include 1st and 2nd, with safety and quality as top priorities.

Schedules:

• 1st Shift: Monday-Thursday, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
• 2nd Shift: Monday-Thursday, 4:25 PM - 2:55 AM

Education Requirements

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of machining experience
• Experience setting up and operating CNC and conventional machining equipment
• Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment
• Strong math, computer, and mechanical aptitude
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of machine shop practices, tooling, fixtures, and machining processes
• Ability to perform machine offsets, load programs, and establish machine zero points
• Experience completing first-piece inspections and maintaining quality standards
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
• Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify process enhancements

Physical Capabilities

• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and material handling throughout the shift
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach overhead as needed
• Comfortable working around machinery, loud noise, dust, and manufacturing environments
