As Grounded’s first Machinist, you will utilize your knowledge, experience, craftsmanship, and creativity to build beautiful and functional RV components for our customers, as well as for commercial fleets including mobile medical vehicles, dental vehicles, and more. You will pioneer new designs and manufacturing techniques to push the envelope of RV construction and aesthetics. You are experienced in various types of fabrication, primarily CNC routers, mills, and lathes.

THIS IS A CONTRACT TO HIRE ROLE, NOT AN ENTRY-LEVEL POSITION - STARTING HOURLY RATE FROM $21 TO $25
ABOUT GROUNDED

Grounded is an innovative, Detroit-based startup founded by ex-SpaceX engineers, focusing on the development of smart, modular electric vehicle systems. We're a team made up of engineers, designers, fabricators, ex-founders, and more. We assembled from around the world with the common goal of creating amazing products that will enable people to explore more without harming the planet. We believe the world would be a better place if people had the freedom and self-reliance to live, work, and explore anywhere, sustainably integrated within nature. That's why we're leading the electric revolution of recreational vehicles to allow people to get closer to nature (and work within it) without harming it.

WORKING AT GROUNDED

You will have an unprecedented opportunity to shape the direction and culture of Grounded. Our team is small, agile, and highly technical, providing a unique chance to see your work transition from concept to high-value product. The work is challenging but rewarding, perfect for those who thrive in fast-paced, innovative environments. We are looking for exceptional people to help form an exceptional culture.

Join Grounded to take part in shaping the future of electric vehicles and making a significant impact on the world. We believe in empowering our team, fostering creativity, and always pushing the boundaries.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Precision Fabrication: Lead all Grounded fabrication of furniture, composite cabinetry, walls, and exterior components with a focus on precision, durability, and quality.
  • Running the shop: Responsible for all aspects of the Grounded machine shop, including safety, organization, scheduling, machine selection and installation, quoting and costing, training, fabricating, maintenance, and inspection.
  • Material Selection & Sourcing: Help select and source high-quality, sustainable materials that support Grounded’s modern, sleek interior design.
  • Collaboration with Engineering & Design Teams: Work closely with engineers and interior designers to ensure all components are optimized for both functionality and style, and to incorporate new tech innovations.
  • Quality Control: Conduct inspections throughout the fabrication process, ensuring all parts meet high standards and adhere to safety regulations for consumer and commercial RVs.
  • Custom Requests: Handle unique, one-off customizations. Develop next-generation vehicle requirements and solutions to constantly push the envelope on Grounded products.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience operating a CNC router (preferably ShopSabre)
  • Experience machining composites, plastics, wood, and soft metals
  • 3+ years of machine shop experience or equivalent degree plus years of experience

This role will be compensated with a competitive salary, overtime opportunities, bonus opportunities, and benefits. This is also a highly visible role with opportunities to move to a leadership position.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

This role is an in-person position in Detroit. We are located in Corktown, right next to the Michigan train station on the Ford-backed Michigan Central campus at 2059 Saint Anne.
