Qualifications

  • CAM programming experience using graphical CAM systems.

  • Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs.
  • Experience with Renishaw probing routines and macro programming.
  • Proficiency with multiple machine controls and drawing interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and verify CNC programs for multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and EDM.
  • Verify CNC programs in Vericut before shop floor release.
  • Support manufacturing engineers with CNC programming tasks.
  • Train operators during machine startups and process changes.
  • Lead tooling/fixturing requirements and process improvements.

MAU is hiring a CNC Programmer for our client in Richmond, VA.

As a CNC Programmer, you will develop and verify CNC programs, troubleshoot machining processes, support manufacturing operations, and implement improvements to safety, quality, cost, and delivery. This is a contract opportunity with an 18-month assignment and potential for direct hire.

  • 1st Shift | Monday - Friday | 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or completion of a Machinist Apprenticeship (or similar program), plus 3 years of experience with graphical-based CAM system CNC programming; OR
  • High school diploma with 6 years of experience with graphics-based CAM system CNC programming
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Machine Tool Technology
  • Experience with Siemens NX CAM (version 1953 or later)
  • Experience creating 5-axis CNC programs using a CAM system
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with high-level machine tool controls, including subroutine (macro), Renishaw probing routines, and variable-based programming
  • Experience machining high-temperature superalloys found in Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine (HDGT) or aerospace components
  • Experience programming large Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL), Vertical Boring Mills (VBM), and Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM)
  • Experience with creep-feed grinding
  • Experience with sinker EDM, wire EDM, and fast-hole drilling EDM
  • Experience with Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification and machine simulation software
  • Experience with large precision grinding applications
General Requirements
  • Ability to safely operate machinery, including machine setup and first-piece prove-out
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Above-average shop mathematics skills, including geometry and trigonometry
  • Strong familiarity with multiple machine controls, including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma, Siemens, and G&L
  • Demonstrated proficiency in interpreting engineering drawing requirements
  • Ability to multitask and productively manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Effective communication skills when coordinating with appropriate team members
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based, matrixed organization
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while embracing and driving positive organizational change
Essential Functions
  • Develop and maintain CNC programs using Siemens NX CAM or other CAM software for multi-axis milling, turning, grinding, and/or electrical discharge machining (EDM).
  • Verify new CNC programs using Vericut before releasing them to the shop floor.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineers (M.E.) with CNC programming and machining-related activities.
  • Train machine operators during new or rebuilt machine startups and process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide daily CNC programming and troubleshooting support to shop floor operators.
  • Support and implement tooling and fixturing requirements associated with CNC machine tools.
  • Develop and maintain workstation instructions and machining methods for CNC-related processes.
  • Initiate and lead process improvement projects to improve manufacturing safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with appropriate team members to support manufacturing operations and process improvements.
