Elgen Staffing represents a client in Hampton seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to develop and optimize programs for mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines used in defense and aerospace components.

The role requires interpreting complex drawings, GD&T, and specifications, establishing tooling, feeds and speeds, and ensuring traceability and quality in AS9102/AS9100 environments. On-site collaboration with machinists and quality teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of CNC machining processes, machine capabilities, cutting tools, workholding, feeds, speeds and machining strategies.
• Strong CNC programming skills for mills, lathes, and multi-axis machining equipment.
• Proficiency with CAM software and G-code.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, technical specifications, and GD&T.
• Understanding of configuration control, revision control, and manufacturing-documentation requirements.
• Strong understanding of dimensional tolerances and precision machining principles.
• Experience with aerospace quality systems such as AS9100/AS9102.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, modify, and maintain CNC programs for mills, lathes, multi-axis machines.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Develop machining strategies to meet dimensions, tolerances, and production objectives.
• Determine cutting tools, fixtures, workholding, feeds, speeds, and sequences.
• Maintain setup sheets, tooling documentation, and information for repeatable operations.
• Ensure programs and docs comply with configuration control and revision requirements.
• Support initial machine setups, prove-outs, and validations on the shop floor.
• Collaborate with machinists to troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, and process issues.
• Support First Article Inspection activities per AS9102 when required.
• Review machining results and adjust programs to meet specs.
• Lead process improvements to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, and productivity.
• Address nonconformances with Quality and Engineering teams.

Job description

Our client, a prestigious, nationwide, law firm dedicated to providing legal services to financial institutions, has an immediate need for an experienced CNC Programmer, to join their winning team in Hampton.

Our candidate of choice will be responsible for developing, validating, maintaining, and optimizing CNC programs used in the manufacture of precision defense and aerospace components. You will play a critical role in ensuring machining processes are accurate, repeatable, traceable, efficient, and compliant with applicable customer, contractual, and quality requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, validate, modify, and maintain CNC programs for mills, lathes, multi-axis machines, and other applicable CNC equipment.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, GD&T requirements, and other controlled technical documentation.
• Develop machining strategies that achieve required dimensions, tolerances, surface finishes, quality requirements, and production objectives.
• Determine appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, workholding methods, feeds, speeds, and machining sequences.
• Develop and maintain accurate setup sheets, tooling documentation, and other information required to support repeatable machining operations.
• Ensure CNC programs and related manufacturing documentation comply with applicable configuration-control and revision requirements.
• Maintain traceability of CNC programs, revisions, and approved process changes.
• Support initial machine setups, prove-outs, and validation of new or revised CNC programs on the shop floor.
• Work directly with machinists to troubleshoot programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, and machining-process issues.
• Support First Article Inspection activities in accordance with applicable requirements, including AS9102 when required.
• Review machining results and make appropriate program or process adjustments to achieve required product specifications.
• Optimize existing programs and machining processes to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, productivity, and overall manufacturing efficiency without compromising customer or contractual requirements.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production personnel to investigate and resolve nonconformances and manufacturing issues.
• Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective-action, and continuous-improvement activities.

• Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, government, or prime-contractor manufacturing requirements.
• Familiarity with ITAR/EAR-controlled manufacturing environments.
• Experience machining high-performance materials such as Inconel, titanium, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, process optimization, or continuous-improvement initiatives.
