Job summary

Rochester Precision Optics, LLC is seeking a CNC Operator 1 for the Machine Shop in a high-volume, low-mix environment. The role focuses on loading materials, safe operation of CNC mills and lathes, monitoring production, and ensuring parts meet specifications with basic inspection tools.

Ideal candidates have prior CNC experience, ability to read blueprints, and familiarity with calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. Compensation includes shift differential and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Prior CNC mills/lathes experience in manufacturing.
• Able to read basic blueprints and understand dimensions/tolerances.
• Familiar with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
• Basic machining concepts including feeds, speeds, and tool wear.
• Follow established work instructions in a production setting.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC mills and lathes using existing programs, setups, and work instructions.
• Load/unload raw materials, fixtures, and finished parts to support continuous production.
• Monitor machine operation and part quality; identify tool wear or dimensional variations.
• Make basic adjustments such as tool offsets or feed/speed changes when trained.
• Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, height gauges to verify specifications.
• Complete production and inspection documentation per internal procedures.
• Communicate quality or equipment issues to supervision or technical leads.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; perform operator-level maintenance.
• Be available for occasional overtime to support production needs.
