Job summary

Timberlab in Piedmont, SC is hiring a CNC operator/programmer to support mass timber production. You will read shop drawings, process CNC files, and monitor machines while maintaining quality and safety standards.

The role requires basic math, ability to use a tape measure, and willingness to learn machine maintenance, with training provided for forklift and crane operation. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• 0-2 years as a CNC operator or programmer.
• Able to measure precisely with a tape measure.
• Able to read and understand shop drawings.
• Familiar with power tools, woodworking, or construction.
• Physically able to stand, squat, kneel and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Some advanced computer experience with design software (e.g., Photoshop, SketchUp, Inkscape, Blender, 3D CAD).
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Mechanical aptitude and good math skills.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Read shop drawings, blueprints, and product specifications.
• Process CNC cut files and edit programs as needed.
• Monitor CNC operation and intervene safely when issues arise.
• Visually and dimensionally inspect parts and verify tolerances.
• Perform daily CNC maintenance and checks.
• Learn CNC repair and part replacement tasks.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy work environment.
• Report tool or equipment issues and unsafe conditions.
• Operate forklift and overhead crane (training provided).
• Follow OSHA and site safety practices and procedures.
• Take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Job Description:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Read, and understand shop drawings, blueprints, product specifications
• Process CNC cut files, be able to edit programs using programming software
• Monitor CNC machine operation and safely intervene in the event of machine malfunction
• Perform visual and dimensional inspection of parts, verify compliance with job specification and tolerances, accurately read a tape measure
• Learn and perform daily CNC machine maintenanceand performance checks
• Learn CNC machine repair and replacement of internal parts
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and healthy work environment
• Report issues with tools, equipment, or unsafe conditions
• Forklift and overhead crane operation, training provided
• Adhere to all OSHA and Swinerton safety practices and procedures
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• 0-2 years as a CNC operator or programmer (metal, wood, waterjet, laser engraver or 3d printer)
• Ability to precisely measure using tape measure
• Ability to read and comprehend shop drawings
• Familiarity with power tools, woodworking, home remodeling, or construction
• This is a physical job. Able to meet physical demands of the job: standing for extended periods, frequent squatting, frequent kneeling, lifting loads up to 50 pounds
• Some advanced computer experience, i.e. Photoshop, Google sketch up, Inkscape, Blender, 3D CAD or other modeling software
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn
• Mechanical aptitude, good math skills
