Job summary

Plymold, Inc. is seeking an experienced CNC programmer to develop and optimize computer numerically controlled programs for woodworking equipment. You will review shop drawings, determine tool paths and speeds, and collaborate with operators to ensure programs run to spec.

Responsibilities include maintaining file structures, adhering to naming conventions, and using nesting software to improve yield and efficiency while applying quality standards and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Two-year degree/certificate in CNC Programming is required, or, absent a degree/certificate, four to five years of applicable work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven CNC programming experience in the woodworking industry.
  • Knowledge of CAD and programming and nesting software.
  • Strong knowledge of woodworking CNC routers.
  • Proficiency in Sigma Nest is a plus.
  • Adaptable to learn future software the company may employ.

Job description

SUMMARY OF POSITION

This position is responsible for performing all activities needed for programming CNC equipment, including maintenance of the programs, files, and the database structure.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The incumbent(s) report to the Engineering Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurately develop programs for the CNC equipment:

  • Review engineered shop drawings to determine best construction method programming methods.
  • Write/develop new programs or modify existing programs.
  • Determines tool paths, tool speeds, feed rates, cutting tools, and the sequence of operations.
    • Analyzes job orders, drawings, blueprints and other data and performs all the necessary calculations to optimize material yield.
  • Works with operators to ensure that programs run correctly and meet specifications.
  • Generates the paperwork required for Operations to accurately pull sheet stock and laminate.
  • Follows an agreed upon naming convention for programs and related drawings.
  • Organizes and maintains file structure.
  • Reviews programs of repeat product to improve yield and machine movement.
  • Utilizes nesting software, when applicable.

  • Utilizes problem-solving skills to resolve issues and concerns.
  • Interacts proactively with engineering and Operations personnel to generate and implement improvements in products and processes
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of written process guidelines.
  • Learns new software and systems in order to stay current with technology
  • Develops a strong understanding of the CAM program’s capabilities and how to apply those capabilities to improve daily programming functions.
  • Works with tooling suppliers to insure we are benefiting from state of the art tooling technology.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

This position requires an individual with proven CNC programming experience in the woodworking industry, along with an understanding of different types of CNC tooling and their applications. He/She must have knowledge of Cad and Programing and nesting software with a strong knowledge of wood working CNC Routers. Proficiency in Sigma Nest is a plus A two (2) year degree/certificate in CNC Programming is required, or, absent a degree/certificate, four to five years of applicable work experience in a manufacturing environment. He/She should be adaptable to learn whatever future software the Company may choose to employ. The individual must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this field. In addition, he/she needs reading comprehension, knowledge of mathematics and excellent communication skills. A strong knowledge of G Code and M Code is required, while knowledge of Fanuc controls would be helpful. He/She must be a critical thinker. He/She needs to drive change and actively continue to seek out additional education and training. Experience and proven good judgment is needed to plan and accomplish goals. This position requires an individual who can handle multiple projects at one time, be open to change, well organized and have the ability to work effectively with others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position typically works in an office environment but will be required to move about the Company to consult with other members or utilize other resources. The incumbent will be exposed to typical shop conditions: dust, noise, heat, cold, fumes. Equipment used includes PC and other office equipment. The use of personal protective equipment will be required in specific areas. The incumbent must be able to handle stressful situations involving project deadlines, multiple priorities and relationship management.
