Job summary

Hawkeye Metal Spinning in Iowa is seeking a motivated machinist to produce parts on CNC machines according to specifications and production requirements. You will discuss with the incoming lead about machine performance, follow Shop Traveler instructions, and ensure parts meet quality standards through inspections and accurate daily records.

A high school diploma or GED with manufacturing experience is preferred, and crane certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Check with lead on machine and job assignments.
• Discuss machine performance with preceding shift machinist.
• Produce parts on CNC machines according to specifications.
• Unload and package parts per standards and customer requirements.
• Record daily production data in ERP and Shop Traveler.
• Follow Shop Traveler, Inspection Sheets, and blueprints.
• Inform QC and supervisor of problems or concerns.
• Perform inspections per Quality Manual.
• Perform preventive maintenance and report issues.
• Maintain clean, orderly work area and 5S compliance.
• Operate safely per PPE and safety policies.
• Maintain required documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

• Check with designated lead person on machine assignment and job assignment.
• Discuss with current machinist from preceding shift about the machine’s performance and any possible difficulties encountered during the course of the shift.
• Produce parts on CNC machines according to specifications and within acceptable production requirements.
• Unload and package parts according to Hawkeye Metal Spinning standards and customer requirements.
• Complete accurate daily records (date, times, quantities of parts ran, and scrap) for every job worked on, on Shop Travelers and in the ERP system.
• Follow instructions from all Hawkeye Metal Spinning documentation, including: Shop Traveler, Inspection Sheets, and blueprints.
• Inform quality control, shift supervisor/ lead person of any problems or concerns with parts.
• Accept responsibility for the quality of products/services provided and perform all required inspections in accordance with the Hawkeye Metal Spinning Quality Manual.
• Perform required preventive maintenance on equipment, watch and listen for abnormal conditions, and report any concerns to maintenance and/or shift supervisor/lead immediately.
• Maintain assigned work area in a clean and orderly manner and comply with all 5S procedures.
• Conduct all tasks and behaviors in a safe manner and comply with all Hawkeye Metal Spinning Safety Policies, including the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, as outlined in the Hawkeye Metal Spinning Safety Manual.
• Maintain all required documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Mechanical background and machine operating experience are helpful
• A willingness to learn and be trained on the Hawkeye Metal Spinning manufacturing process

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or GED with at least 1 year of industrial or manufacturing experience is preferred. Crane certification is required. Formal education or experience may be substituted with training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

Working Conditions:

This is a safety sensitive position. This work is performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment processes. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance and may include overtime as deemed necessary by management.
