The University of Texas' McDonald Observatory is seeking a CNC Machinist & Programmer to program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, and wire EDM to fabricate precision parts for astronomical instruments.

Ideal candidates will have MasterCAM proficiency, several years of machinist experience, and the ability to design fixtures, work independently, and collaborate with researchers. On-site role at UT Austin campus with safety-conscious environment.

Competenze

• High school diploma or GED; technical courses in math/physics/blueprint reading preferred.
• Professional MasterCAM programming proficiency and CNC operation experience.
• Four years as machinist, instrument maker, or related role beyond apprenticeship.

Mansioni

• Program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, and wire EDM to fabricate precision parts.
• Design and build fixtures and jigs; adjust tooling and machine settings per job specs.
• Assist researchers and design personnel in instrument construction; teach machining skills when needed.
