Job summary

Jobot Consulting is seeking a CNC Machinist in Newport News, VA to set up and operate CNC mills and lathes, reading blueprints and specs to produce precision parts for aerospace and defense programs.

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of CNC experience, strong attention to detail, and familiarity with G-code and metrology tools. We offer competitive pay up to $39/hr and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machines
• Ability to read blueprints and engineering specs
• Knowledge of G-code and basic offsets
• Experience with precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, and gauges
• Strong attention to detail and ability to hold tight tolerances
• Familiarity with quality and safety standards in manufacturing

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and related equipment to spec
• Read blueprints and engineering drawings to produce parts
• Monitor processes and adjust to maintain tight tolerances
• Perform in-process inspection with micrometers, calipers, gauges
• Troubleshoot tooling and fixturing to minimize downtime
• Follow quality and safety standards; keep work area clean

Job Details

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment to produce precision components to spec
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure accurate part production
• Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and quality standards
• Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
• Identify and troubleshoot issues with tooling, fixturing, and machining processes to minimize downtime
• Follow all quality and safety standards and maintain a clean, organized work area
• Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and other machinists to meet production goals and deadlines

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining equipment
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
• Working knowledge of G-code and basic machine offsets
• Experience using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gauges
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to hold tight tolerances consistently
• Familiarity with quality and safety standards in a manufacturing environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting
