Job summary

Morrison Container Handling Solutions in Chicago seeks a dedicated CNC Machinist for the 2nd shift to safely operate Mazak lathes and mills. You will review prints, BOMs and orders, set up jobs, and manage workflow with leaders to meet schedule targets.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma; CNC certs preferred.
• 3–5 years' CNC Mill/Lathe experience including setups and programming.
• Mazak programming experience highly desired.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work physically demanding shifts.

• Read blueprints, drawings and models; interpret tolerances.
• Knowledge of production processes and machining best practices.

Responsibilities

Job description

Morrison Container Handling Solutions, the leading container handling expert in the packaging industry, is seeking a CNC Machinist - 2ND SHIFT to join our busy production team and be responsible for the efficient and safe operation of Mazak Lathes and Mills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Review Bills of Materials, Parts Orders, and blueprint list daily; with department leads, to determine job priorities for the day
• Together with the Production Operations Manager, Timing Screw Lead, and other Lead Machinists, schedule the flow of jobs through production for optimal efficiency; monitor progress throughout the day to ensure standards for timeliness and production value are met
• Using data supplied by the Engineering team, determine and execute proper part features, finishes and tolerancing.
• Collaborate with engineers to improve parts, correct errors on prints, and/or address other discrepancies; inform Production Operations Manager of any such discrepancies
• Seek out and drive improvements in tooling and/or processes; implement change to benefit the specific department as well as overall production operations
• Choose proper tooling based on parameters of each specific job
• inspect finished parts to make sure all features, finishes, and tolerances are correct
• Perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance to ensure machines run properly and maintain a tidy workspace
• During machining of long cycle times, perform other tasks such as maintenance and cleaning
• Read and respond to emails pertaining to machining job functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: High School Diploma. Additional certifications (CNC Mill/Lathe operation courses, etc.) are highly preferred.
• 3-5 years' experience running CNC Mill or Lathe, including setups and programming are desired.
• Mazak programming experience is highly desired.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and maintain demanding physical operations throughout the workday

• Mechanical Skills: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance; committed to the safe operation of machinery
• Technical and Design Skills: Ability to read blueprints, drawings and models, and analyze such plans for proper use; familiarity with design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
• Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing of parts
• Attention to Detail: Operating the equipment requires constant management of minute details; small errors can be extremely costly, both in money and time, and across multiple departments
• Organization: Strong ability to plan, prioritize and multi-task
