Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a General Helper for our Newton, NJ machine shop. The role supports CNC machinists and other shop activities, performing general maintenance and material handling essential to production.

Requirements include a high school diploma and at least 1 year in a maintenance shop or manufacturing environment. The position operates 5:45 a.m. – 2:15 p.m., Monday to Friday, with an hourly rate of $18.00.

Responsibilities

• General maintenance such as sweeping, mopping, and trash removal.
• Unload trucks, cut stock, and deliver material to machines.
• Operate manual equipment with guidance from setup crew.
• Run production parts on CNC machines, deburr, and operate laser engraver.
• Finish machined parts via tumbling, polishing, bead blasting.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean, orderly work areas.
