Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking a General Helper in Newton, NJ to support CNC machinists and material handling within a fast-paced machine shop. The role involves assisting with daily setup, performing manual machining support, and maintaining safe, organized work areas. Hours are 3:45 p.m.

to 12:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, with a shift differential of $3.50 per hour. The position requires a high school diploma and at least one year of shop experience; Thorlabs provides a comprehensive benefits package

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in a maintenance shop or manufacturing environment.
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Specialized knowledge includes initiative, teamwork, quality standards, multitasking, problem solving, and ability to follow written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance duties (sweeping, mopping, trash removal).
• Unload trucks, move stock, and deliver materials to machines.
• Operate manual equipment under setup guidance; run CNC parts and deburr.
• Finish parts (tumbling, polishing, bead blasting) and ensure safety compliance.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow company policies.
