Job summary

ARCH Cutting Tools Flushing in Michigan is seeking a CNC Lathe Machinist/Operator to set up and run CNC lathes in a precision tooling environment. Starting pay is $20/hr and up based on experience, with benefits available from day one and a 20% shift premium on 2nd shift.

Qualified candidates read blueprints, interpret machining specs, and adjust tools and offsets. Prior Fanuc CNC experience, CAD or Mastercam familiarity, and lean manufacturing exposure are a plus.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of CNC machining experience or equivalent training.
• Experience with Fanuc or similar CNC controls.
• Ability to read blueprints and job instructions.
• Familiarity with Mastercam, CAD or similar software is a plus.
• Lean Manufacturing and 5S experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce parts per specs.
• Read and interpret blueprints, job instructions, and machining specifications.
• Set up fixturing, tooling, and other equipment for CNC lathe operations.
• Read, interpret, and adjust CNC G-code and programming as needed.
• Monitor operations and ensure part quality and specifications.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance and keep area clean and safe.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce parts according to specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints, job instructions, and machining specifications.
• Set up fixturing, live tooling, cutting tools, and other equipment required for CNC lathe operations.
• Select appropriate cutting tools and calculate feeds, speeds, and depths of cut.
• Read, interpret, and make adjustments to CNC G-code and related programming.
• Set and adjust CNC work offsets, tool offsets, tool radius offsets, and other machine parameters.
• Monitor machining operations and make necessary adjustments to maintain part quality and specifications.
• Inspect completed parts using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
• Follow established safety procedures and properly operate equipment and materials.
• Must observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly and safely for the safety of the employees and tools.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance and maintain machine cleanliness.
• Keep the surrounding work area clean, organized, and safe.
• Perform job requirements and all other duties as assigned.

Competencies, Qualifications, Education/Experience Requirements

2-4 years of related CNC machining experience and training, or an equivalent combination of experience and trade schooling (must have some experience beyond schooling). Experience with Fanuc or similar CNC controls required. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job instructions. Ability to understand CNC programs and make basic program or offset adjustments. Familiarity with Mastercam, CAD, or similar software is a plus. Ability to perform basic to advanced mathematical calculations related to machining. Ability to apply common sense, understanding, and ability to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving variables. Must be able to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor your own work to ensure quality of product. Experience with Lean Manufacturing and or 5S is a plus.
