Duties/Responsibilities for a CNC Lathe Machinist

• Loads, unloads, starts, and stops machines.
• Sets the feeds and speeds of machines during the machining process.
• Watches gauges, dials, and other key indicators to ensure machines are functioning properly and workpieces meet quality standards.
• Monitors machines during operation to detect dull cutting tools and excessive vibration.
• Measures dimensions of finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
• Calculates and sets machine movements according to drawing specifications.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities for a CNC Lathe Machinist

• Knowledge of basic hand tools, including their uses and maintenance.
• Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions.
• Ability to control the operations of machining equipment and systems.
• Basic mathematics knowledge, particularly trigonometry.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Training in 5S and Lean Manufacturing.
• Basic blueprint reading skills.
• Knowledge of Documentation and Modern’s Production System.
• Inspection techniques for machinists, including SPC charts and tools.
• Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, including adjusting boring heads.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• Ability to lift pieces with hoists or cranes.
• Ability to work standing for extended periods.

Special Requirements

• Crane/hoist operator certification.
