Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a CAM Programmer / CNC Machinist to translate SolidWorks models into Mastercam toolpaths, set up CNC mills and lathes, and produce precision parts for rapid prototypes and low-volume builds.

The role requires an associate degree (or 6 years experience) and strong mastery of Mastercam and SolidWorks, plus GD&T proficiency and a proactive problem-solving approach in a fast-paced prototyping environment.

Qualifications

• Requires Associate degree or equivalent with 2 years machining experience
• Proficient in Mastercam and SolidWorks daily
• Strong knowledge of tooling, workholding, setup and optimization
• Able to read engineering drawings and GD&T with tight tolerances
• Proven problem-solving in fast-paced prototyping environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication; team player and independent when needed
• U.S. citizen; ability to obtain DOE/DOD clearance

Responsibilities

• Program, edit, and optimize Mastercam toolpaths from SolidWorks models and drawings
• Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes (3–5 axis preferred)
• Interpret drawings and GD&T; select speeds and feeds for various materials
• Run prove-outs and first-article runs; drive process improvements
• Collaborate with engineering/assembly on DFM/DFX and manufacturability
• Perform in-process inspections and document results
• Maintain programs, posts, and revision control; keep workspace safe and organized
• Assist with routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting
