Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; machining apprenticeship or technical certificate preferred.
• Experience setting up and proving out 5-axis CNC machining centers.
• Ability to read complex blueprints and GD&T with accuracy.
• Experience selecting tools, establishing work offsets, and troubleshooting machining processes.
• Ability to machine tight-tolerance parts; aerospace experience preferred.
• Willingness to work overtime to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

Title: CNC 5 Axis Setup Machinist
Location: Tampa, FL
Compensation: $26–$34 per hour

Job Summary

Seeking a 5-axis CNC Setup Machinist to set up, prove out, and run complex machined parts. Responsibilities include operating milling machines, secondary equipment, and grinders to machine metallic and nonmetallic workpieces.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 5-axis CNC mills, including fixtures, tools, work offsets, and probing routines.
• Read drawings, specifications, setup sheets, and CNC programs to plan each setup.
• Load and prove out programs using safe practices, including simulation, single block, and controlled first runs as appropriate.
• Measure first pieces and in-process parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Make tool offset and approved program adjustments to maintain dimensions and improve consistency.
• Identify and resolve setup, tooling, workholding, program, and machining issues.
• Document setup details, tool changes, and process improvements for repeat jobs.
• Work with quality, supervisors, and production to address problems and keep jobs moving.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and care for machines, tooling, and fixtures.
• Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor, including department transfers to meet production needs.

Required Skills / Attributes

• Demonstrated experience setting up and proving out 5-axis CNC machining centers.
• Hands-on experience with CNC controls.
• Strong ability to read complex blueprints and understand GD&T.
• Experience selecting tools, establishing work offsets, and troubleshooting machining processes.
• Ability to inspect parts accurately and work independently from setup through first-piece approval.
• Experience machining tight-tolerance parts; aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to work overtime to meet tight deadlines as needed.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Machining apprenticeship, technical certificate, or associate degree in machining or manufacturing technology preferred; equivalent hands-on experience accepted.
• Training or demonstrated experience with CNC controls required.
• Additional training in 5-axis machining, blueprint reading, GD&T, and inspection methods is a plus.
• Ability to machine parts to tolerances of ±0.0005 inches.
• Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints to produce parts to specification.

Physical Job Requirements

• Regularly required to stand and reach throughout an 8–10-hour shift.
• Occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
• Frequently required to perform repetitive or short-cycle work.
• Regularly lift, push, or pull up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Understand and observe all necessary safety procedures, including requirements for safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, machine interlocks, and lifting guidelines for the assigned work area.
