Job summary

United CNC Machining in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an experienced 5-axis CNC Machinist to set up and run large-format equipment (bridge mills, horizontal centers) on aerospace/defense components.

You will read blueprints and GD&T, work with CAD/CAM programs, perform in-process inspections, adjust tooling and offsets, and collaborate with programmers and engineers to optimize processes while maintaining a clean, safe shop.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC machining experience (5-axis required).
• Experience with large-format machines (bridge mills, gantry mills, or large HMCs).
• Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
• AS9100 experience a plus for aerospace/defense standards.
• Ability to work with tight tolerances and complex geometries.
• Experience machining exotic alloys (Inconel, titanium, stainless) preferred.
• US Citizenship or Permanent Resident (ITAR compliant).

Summary

We are looking for an experienced 5-axis CNC machinist who will set up and run large-format equipment, including bridge mills and horizontal machining centers, to produce complex aerospace and defense components (some over 100\"+) to tight tolerances. The machinist reads blueprints, GD&T, and CAD/CAM programs, inspects parts during production, and adjusts offsets, tooling, and programs to hold quality. They also work with programmers and engineers to improve processes, keep the work area clean and safe, and document production and quality checks.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 5-axis CNC machining centers, including large bridge mills and horizontal machining centers
• Machine large, complex components (up to 100\"+) to tight tolerances
• Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and CAD/CAM programs
• Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools
• Adjust offsets, tooling, and programs to maintain part quality
• Collaborate with programmers and engineers to optimize machining processes
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Document production activity and quality checks per company standards

Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC machining experience (5-axis required)
• Experience with large-format machines (bridge mills, gantry mills, or large HMCs)
• Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
• Familiarity with aerospace/defense quality standards (AS9100 experience a plus)
• Ability to work with tight tolerances and complex geometries
• Experience machining exotic alloys (Inconel, titanium, stainless) preferred
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR compliant)

Preferred Experience

• Experience with machines such as OKK, Doosan, Awea, or similar
• Exposure to 5-axis simultaneous machining
• Knowledge of tooling strategies for large part machining
• Experience in prototype and low-volume production environments

Physical & Mental Demands

• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Regular standing, bending, and manual assembly work.
• Work performed in a clean, organized, controlled manufacturing setting
• Exposure to machine shop environment (coolant, metal chips, noise)
