Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care. Provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Knowledge of and delivers age-appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per care plan. Considered a member of the nursing team and is expected to follow infection prevention and control policies and Personal Protective Equipment use. Provides assistance with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support and other personal care to residents. Assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct techniques and equipment. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience. Assists residents with meals and snacks, providing water and supplements as appropriate. The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions, and communicates changes in resident condition. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services, assists with wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in committees as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing or enrollment in a training program to obtain certification within four months. Completion of yearly competency testing and continuing education credits are required. Certification with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry is applicable in some states. Depending on responsibilities, may require a valid driver’s license and medical clearance for driving.
