Duties and Responsibilities
CNA Instructor Duties
  • Maintain performance standards and pursue goals, objectives, and activities that promote the mission, vision and value statement of the College.
  • Attend and provide meaningful instruction for all classes/modules during the semester/session. Be punctual in class attendance and provide instruction for the complete class period. Make appropriate arrangements for necessary absences according to College policies.
  • Develop, distribute, and post course syllabi prior to the start of class that are in accordance to the Course Management System as approved by supervisor and aligned with approved master syllabi which describe in detail the requirements of the course/module, attendance policy, assessment strategies, grading system, classroom policies, and other information as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and evaluation records and submit to department head/appropriate supervisor at the end of each semester/session.
  • Adhere to all timelines established by the college, particularly with respect to the submission of shows and no shows, grade rosters, reporting non-attendance of students, referring students for counseling, and responding to records inquires and other communications about students in a timely manner.
  • Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, College harassment policies, and/or other legal requirements.
  • Advise and mentor students related to course progress and retention strategies for student success. Refer students at risk of failure to advising or counseling. Monitor students' progress in courses and provide timely feedback to aid academic success and to inform program coordinators regarding course offerings.
  • Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.
  • Foster, demonstrate, and actively participate in a culture of mutual respect for students, guests, and co-workers from all backgrounds, perspectives and abilities. Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and supervisors, and utilize appropriate channels of communication within the college community concerning procedures and/or inquiries.
  • Complete all academic and occupational credential requirements defined by LCTCS Board policies and procedures, and requirements defined by accrediting agencies.
  • Be available to students via phone or email to assist with any assignment questions/needs, within 24 hours for workdays and 48 hours on weekends, according to division procedures.
  • Participate in professional development activities that enhance effectiveness (convocation, LCTCS conference, etc.).
  • Represent the college in a manner that promotes a professional and positive image.
  • Adhere to College and LCTCS policies.
  • Embrace college culture.
  • Complete all required assignments prior to deadlines (Fletcher/LCTCS trainings, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Program Coordinator Duties
  • Maintain program statistics required by any boards and accreditation bodies.
  • Coordinate with ASN Program Chair to schedule faculty for courses prior to each semester.
  • Coordinate and schedule all courses prior to the beginning of each semester.
  • Track student payments and adjust cohort numbers after each semester (if applicable).
  • Maintain communications with the ASN Program Chair, faculty, students, and clinical sites.
  • Assist the ASN Program Chair to create a learning environment in which all students are treated equitably and with respect.
  • Attend regular meetings for the faculty.
  • Monitor and maintain the attendance records of students from faculty for all courses. Report any issues to the ASN Program Chair.
  • Maintain records of course syllabi, course exams, and clinical paperwork from faculty for all courses per the record retention schedule.
  • Maintain records of all student files including admission evaluation forms, NCLEX pass rates and transcripts (if applicable).
  • Oversee the performance and teaching of safety issues in the program.
  • Participate and assist in organizing student orientation sessions and prepare and mail any required paperwork for students (if applicable).
  • Collaborate with ASN Program Chair to assure consistency with other programs to assure ease in transition from practical nursing program to ASN (if applicable).
  • Participate in student orientation sessions.
  • Monitor the clinical requirement of each student prior to the student going into a clinical setting and report any delinquencies to the appropriate instructor and Department Head (if applicable).
  • Coordinate clinical education assignments and provide administration, organization, and supervision of the student clinical experience (if applicable).
  • Monitor student’s academic records and report to Department Head any delinquencies.
  • Develop, monitor, and follow up on the annual systematic plan of evaluation and any annual reports.
  • Advise students and complete form and transcripts as appropriate.
  • Assist students in completing graduation and required board paperwork if applicable. Assist graduating students in planning pinning ceremony (if applicable).
  • Develop and monitor plan program outcome assessment.
  • Must have flexibility to schedule to advise students in program area.
  • Must be on site where the program is conducted at least 50% of training performs (this includes classroom, lecture and clinical instruction). (if applicable)
  • Must be able to work alongside instructors to provide students with appropriate classroom/lab sessions.
  • Provide assistance in lab setting as needed to ensure quality experiences (if applicable).
  • Attend and participate in scheduled activities, which include graduation, open house/recruiting events as assigned, advising during registration and any specially held registrations, tutoring, seminars, college in-service, and required meetings. Share ideas and information, and work toward common department and College goals.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Head, Dean, or VC.
Required Education

Master’s degree or above in Nursing or Education, or

Required Experience

Registered nurse with current, unencumbered license and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the provision of long-term care facility services and one of the following: VTIE, CTTIE, “train the trainer”.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates must have good instructional techniques; computer knowledge; student-centered attitude; and must be well organized.
