Job summary

Courion, a Vantage Elevation company, seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of custom freight elevator systems and components at the St. Louis facility.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical design expertise, project leadership, and extensive manufacturing experience. You will collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, sales, and operations to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 8–10 years in mechanical engineering or design, preferably manufacturing or custom equipment.
• Experience leading complex engineering projects from concept through production.
• Strong design, analysis, and problem-solving skills; able to drive improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of custom freight elevator systems, doors, and enclosures.
• Manage projects from concept through manufacturing, installation, and implementation.
• Develop detailed drawings, BOMs, and production documentation in SolidWorks.
• Provide technical leadership and reviews; mentor team members.

About the Opportunity

Courion, a Vantage Elevation company, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of custom freight elevator systems and components at our St. Louis manufacturing facility.

We are looking for a seasoned engineering professional with strong mechanical design expertise, demonstrated project leadership, and extensive experience in a manufacturing environment. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering projects, influence product development, and drive improvements in design, manufacturing efficiency, and product quality.

The ideal candidate combines hands‑on technical expertise with the ability to lead engineering initiatives, solve complex design challenges, and collaborate effectively across engineering, manufacturing, sales, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of custom freight elevator systems, doors, car enclosures, and related components.
• Manage complex engineering projects from initial concept and design through manufacturing, installation, and implementation.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs, complex assemblies, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials using SolidWorks.
• Perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations to ensure product functionality, structural integrity, reliability, and safety.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering team members, including design reviews, troubleshooting, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, sales, quality, and installation teams to translate customer requirements into practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable designs.
• Lead engineering improvements focused on product quality, design standardization, cost reduction, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Ensure designs meet applicable safety codes, customer specifications, and Courion engineering standards.
• Provide technical support during production and installation, including occasional field visits to troubleshoot equipment or evaluate project requirements.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred. An associate degree combined with extensive relevant experience will also be considered.
• 8-10 years of progressive mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience, preferably in manufacturing, custom-engineered equipment, or industrial products.

• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, sheet metal design, fabrication drawings, and production documentation.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, material selection, manufacturing tolerances, and design for manufacturability.
• Ability to perform engineering calculations and develop detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of applicable mechanical design standards and engineering best practices.
• Familiarity with ASME A17.1, EN 81, or other elevator safety codes preferred.
