Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (HCEA) is seeking an entry-level Construction Materials Testing/Inspection professional to support the CMT department on a variety of public and private sector projects in the mid-Atlantic. You will work under supervision and may serve as Project Manager for CMT projects, progressing through the career ladder.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience or internships considered.
• Valid driver's license with reliable vehicle.
• Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans and specifications.
• Occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel may be required.
• Ability to lift and carry 60–80 pounds and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Support construction materials testing/inspection projects for public and private sector clients.
• Perform field inspections for more complicated projects including deep foundations or ground improvement.
• Serve as lead senior inspector on projects supervising other technicians.
• Review daily CMT field reports for accuracy and completeness in a Project Manager role.
• Coordinate and provide oversight to field technicians and inspection personnel as assigned.
• Perform occasional on-site construction materials testing and inspection services for routine projects.
• Interpret engineering plans, specifications, and construction documents.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, contractors, and field personnel to support project execution.
• Ensure testing and inspection activities comply with applicable standards, project specifications, and quality requirements.
• Communicate regularly with clients, contractors, developers, and project stakeholders.
• Adhere to company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
