Job summary

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare seeks a Medical Assistant to provide patient care in a clinic setting under physician direction. You will assist during visits, collect vitals, prepare exam rooms, and support clerical tasks to ensure smooth patient flow.

Responsibilities include administering meds/immunizations, EKGs, venipuncture, specimen collection, and patient education. Certification requirements include Heartsaver and NCCT/AMT/other MA credentials as applicable.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; technical degree or diploma in Medical Assistant preferred.
• HEARTSAVER certification required.
• NCCT Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• AMT Registered Medical Assistant preferred.
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant preferred.
• Nationally Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• AAMA Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
• BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Proactively assists patients throughout the visit as needed, accompanies patients to the exam/procedure room.
• Responds to patient needs in a professional and friendly manner.
• Performs clerical activities related to patient care such as scheduling appointments and Diagnostic Imaging exams, lab call backs, prior authorizations, retrieving medical histories, and completing patient forms.
• Collects and records patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and blood pressure, and basic information about presenting and previous conditions.
• Records pertinent patient information, surgical history, review of systems, past medical history and social history.
• May assist with physical examination preparations.
• Performs EKGs, removes sutures/staples, and changes dressings as directed.
• Collects and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis (urine, sputum, stool).
• Assists with undressing, cleansing and positioning patients for procedures.
• Performs skin tests and venipuncture for blood withdrawal.
• Administers medications and immunizations under physician direction.
• May authorize prescription refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
• Administers first aid or CPR in an emergency.
• Prepares and cleans exam/procedure rooms and maintains infection control.
• Prepares supplies, restocks, and orders as needed.
• Provides patient education and instructions under supervising physician direction.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
