Job description

The Role We Need:

PadSplit is growing fast, and we need a strong technical foundation to scale with us. We’re hiring a Cloud Platform Engineer to take ownership of our cloud infrastructure, optimize performance, and ensure our backend systems are secure and reliable. This role is key to improving our AWS environment, PostgreSQL databases, and DevOps workflows so we can continue building a platform that makes affordable housing more accessible.

The Person We Are Looking For:

We need a hands-on engineer with deep expertise in AWS, PostgreSQL, and Python/Django—someone who loves solving complex technical challenges and making systems faster, more resilient, and more scalable. The ideal candidate is proactive, collaborative, and excited about shaping our cloud architecture for our next phases of growth. If you thrive in a fast-moving environment and enjoy working cross-functionally to drive meaningful impact, this role is for you!

Here Is What You’ll Be Doing Day-To-Day:
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure AWS infrastructure.
  • Database Optimization: Manage AWS RDS (PostgreSQL) performance, indexing, and schema changes to ensure efficiency.
  • Backend Development: Build and maintain backend services using Python and Django for platform stability.
  • CI/CD Automation: Implement and improve deployment pipelines (our repos are in BitBucket).
  • System Monitoring & Logging: Enhance observability using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, or Grafana.
  • Security & Compliance: Strengthen IAM policies, data encryption, and VPC security best practices.
  • Performance Tuning: Optimize application and query performance to improve speed and reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, data, and product teams to scale and refine the platform.
Here is what You’ll Need To Be Successful:
  • AWS Expertise: Strong experience with AWS services like EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, and IAM.
  • Database Optimization: Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL performance tuning, indexing, and schema design.
  • Backend Development: Experience in Python and Django to help build scalable, secure applications.
  • CI/CD & DevOps: Experience automating deployments and managing infrastructure with tools like GitHub Actions or CircleCI.
  • Monitoring & Security: Familiarity with CloudWatch, Prometheus, Datadog, IAM policies, and encryption best practices.
  • Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker or Kubernetes for scalable systems.
  • Scalability & Performance: Ability to optimize queries, caching strategies, and system performance.
  • Problem-Solving & Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and data teams.
  • Autonomy & Leadership: Comfortable making technical decisions, mentoring others, and driving improvements independently.
The Interview Process:
  • Your application will be reviewed for possible next steps by the Hiring Manager.
  • If you meet eligibility requirements, the next step would be a phone call with a member of the PeopleOps team for about thirty (30) minutes.
  • If warranted, the next step would be a video interview with our VP of Engineering for forty-five (45) minutes.
  • If warranted, the next step would be a video panel interview with key stakeholders at PadSplit for one-and-a-half (1.5) hour.
  • The panel interview will require a candidate to work on a technical assessment where you will showcase your engineering skills to the panel for discussion.
  • If warranted, the final step would be a video interview with our CTO for thirty (30) minutes.
  • If warranted, then we move to offer!
Compensation, Benefits, and Perks:
  • Fully remote position - we swear!
  • Competitive compensation package including an equity incentive plan
  • National medical, dental, and vision healthcare plans
  • Company provided life insurance policy
  • Optional accidental insurances, FSA, and DCFSA benefits
  • Unlimited paid-time (PTO) policy with eleven (11) company-observed holidays
  • 401(k) plan
  • Twelve (12) weeks of paid time off for both birth and non-birth parents
  • The opportunity to do what you love at a company that is at the forefront of solving the affordable housing crisis

Compensation is based on the role's scope, national market benchmarks, the person's expertise and experience, and the impact of their contributions to our business goals.
