Job summary

Extreme Networks, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Principal/Principal Engineer to lead the design, architecture, and development of a cloud platform.

This role requires a seasoned technologist with 15+ years of experience in large-scale distributed systems and microservices. You will mentor engineering teams, drive architectural excellence, and collaborate with product, DevOps, and security to align platform capabilities with business goals.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience with at least 8+ years in distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Experience designing and building large-scale cloud platforms or SaaS applications.
• Deep understanding of microservices, API design, and event-driven systems.
• Proficiency in cloud platforms and containerization (AWS, Azure, GCP; Docker, Kubernetes).
• Expertise in modern programming languages (Java, Go, Python, or similar) and frameworks.
• Hands-on with relational and NoSQL databases, data management, and eventual consistency patterns.
• Strong DevOps background, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and guide cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect a scalable cloud platform with 15+ microservices.
• Define and enforce architectural standards and patterns across services.
• Lead technical strategy for platform evolution and deployment architectures.
• Mentor engineering teams and provide architectural guidance.
• Drive performance, scalability, and reliability improvements.

• Define monitoring, observability, and alerting for distributed systems.
• Lead investigations and resolution of complex production issues.
• Evaluate new technologies to enhance platform capabilities.
• Participate in architectural reviews and technology steering committees.
