Job summary

Benchling, Inc. is building an AI-powered platform for biotech R&D. We seek an experienced infrastructure engineer to scale our cloud foundation and drive reliability, security, and cost efficiency across engineering teams.

You will own multi-quarter infrastructure initiatives, design scalable systems, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver robust platform capabilities used by scientists and developers worldwide.

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in software engineering, site reliability, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
Proficiency in at least one language such as Python, Go, or TypeScript.
Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, EKS, RDS, VPC, IAM, S3) and understanding of compute, storage, networking, and security.
Production experience with infrastructure-as-code, ideally Terraform at meaningful scale.
Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container-based platforms.
Track record of independently scoping and delivering complex, multi-month projects, including writing design docs.

Responsibilities

Own projects end-to-end from initial design to production rollout and handoff.
Design, build, and maintain internal applications, APIs, automation, and tooling that support Benchling's cloud platform.
Own parts of our AWS foundation, including Kubernetes, networking, secrets, PKI, and observability with clear SLOs and telemetry.
Advance our infrastructure-as-code practices, including Terraform modules and policy-as-code guardrails.
Drive cloud cost governance by building visibility and alerting; allocate costs to services.
