Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Cupertino is seeking a Senior Cloud Hardware Development Engineer with a mechanical/thermal focus to design optical module hardware and thermal solutions for AWS networking.

You will collaborate with design teams, manufacturing partners, and operations to deliver robust, manufacturable, and cost-efficient hardware. You will own mechanical design, thermal management, and DFm initiatives, conduct thermal simulations, develop test plans, and drive manufacturing yields.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design for hardware systems.
  • 8+ years of thermal simulation and test validation.
  • 4+ years validating thermal and mechanical characterization testbeds.
  • 4+ years of data analysis and presenting data-driven deep dives.
  • 2+ years working on manufacturing processes and qualifications.
  • 1+ years of Python or similar scripting for automation.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with vendors to evaluate new mechanical and thermal design approaches for optical modules.
  • Develop mechanical and thermal designs for modules and systems, including structural analysis and enclosure design.
  • Perform thermal simulation and validation to meet performance across operating conditions.
  • Develop and automate test plans for verification, thermal characterization, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with vendors to validate designs through prototyping and production.
  • Drive design for manufacturing initiatives to improve yields and reduce cost.
  • Work with operations to identify quality issues and optimize RMAs.
