This is an opportunity to lead a field engineering team, helping customers understand and implement Canonical's open source solutions across public clouds and data centers. The role involves working with a range of cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private clouds, Kubernetes, and open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As the company expands into new industries such as telecom, finance, healthcare, and media, new open source solutions are developed to meet these needs.
We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding engineers, capable of troubleshooting technical issues, engaging in technical presales, and contributing to project delivery. They should also excel in shaping team direction, focus, and growth, fostering soft skills development in engineers.
The role involves managing a team of cloud solutions architects, working directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including on-premise solutions like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deploying solutions such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and PostgreSQL. Managers will also participate in presales and technical advice during sales processes.
Key responsibilities include line management, career guidance, developing engineering talent, representing the team technically, driving collaboration, and participating in presales to meet quarterly goals. The role is home-based, managing a team within your time zone.
Daily activities include leading and developing the team, solving customer problems, coaching, measuring team health, implementing engineering processes, stakeholder engagement, and collaborating on engineering practices and project planning.
Ideal candidates will have knowledge of cloud technologies (Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph), Linux, networking, and experience in technical presales. Strong communication skills, leadership, organizational ability, and willingness to travel up to 40% are required. Additional skills like Spanish or French, Python, and experience with external partners are a plus.
