Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Austin is seeking a network cabling engineer to design and implement fiber connectivity for hyperscale data centers.

You will collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams to develop and evaluate fiber optic solutions and to plan their deployment across global sites. The role requires strong knowledge of structured cabling, ANSI/TIA and BICSI standards, plus experience in testing fiber and reading technical drawings.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of data center experience or cabling infrastructure experience
• Expertise in ANSI/TIA, BICSI and other structured cabling guidelines
• 2+ years of experience developing test requirements and scripts for fiber validation
• Proven ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and external vendors
• Strong skills in reviewing and interpreting technical drawings, cable schedules, and documentation management

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to develop and evaluate new Fiber Optic solutions and plan implementation
• Design and specify structured cabling systems for network layers at hyperscale data centers
• Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments
• Focus on ambiguous problem areas in network architecture and deliver impact projects
• Manage fiber vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles
• Perform site inspections to validate as-built conditions and ensure compliance
• Monitor network health and remediate large scale events to improve links
• Troubleshoot fiber connectivity and cabling design issues
• Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for global fiber networks
