Job summary

Temporal is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Cloud Applications team in Oregon. You will design, build, and operate backend services and data pipelines that power Temporal Cloud, focusing on namespaces, audit logs, and exports.

You’ll collaborate with engineers and product teams to deliver scalable, reliable systems and improve developer experience. You should bring strong CS fundamentals, production backend experience in the cloud, and proficiency with Go and distributed systems

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating production backend systems in a cloud environment.
• Proficiency in Go or another applicable backend language.
• Strong CS fundamentals: data structures, concurrency, testing, debugging.
• Knowledge of distributed-systems concepts: reliability, fault tolerance, scaling, failure handling.
• Experience with databases, data pipelines, messaging systems, or object storage.
• Ability to decompose scoped problems and implement end‑to‑end solutions.
• Operational mindset: logging, metrics, tracing, deployment, production troubleshooting.
• Comfort communicating progress, risks, and tradeoffs across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and ship features and improvements for Temporal Cloud.
• Build services for namespace provisioning, configuration, scalability, and reliability.
• Develop data pipelines processing high-volume usage across tenants.
• Make thoughtful engineering tradeoffs balancing data freshness, cost, isolation, reliability.
• Improve operability with tests, instrumentation, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and incident response.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to deliver scoped projects.
