Job summary

Temporal is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Open Source Server team, contributing to the core Temporal server. You will tackle distributed systems challenges across matching, scheduling, persistence, and workflow lifecycle features while collaborating with experienced engineers to build and operate scalable backend components.

We value strong CS fundamentals, production backend experience, and a habit of writing high-quality, maintainable code in Go or similar languages.

Qualifications

• Experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong CS fundamentals on concurrency, data structures, and debugging.
• Production-quality Go or other backend language with emphasis on correctness.
• Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and tradeoffs.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and ship features for the Temporal server core.
• Address distributed systems challenges in matching, scheduling, and persistence.
• Balance performance, operability, and developer experience in solutions.
• Collaborate with product managers, cloud teams, and customer-facing teams.
• Improve server reliability with tests, instrumentation, dashboards, and runbooks.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews for quality codebase.
• Contribute to open source/community and enterprise user experience.
