Job summary

Afference Inc. is seeking a Cloud/Backend Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain cloud backend software and databases for a cutting-edge neural haptic platform.

You will interface cloud systems, SDKs, and middleware, and work with leadership to deliver scalable, reliable solutions. Responsibilities include independent work on complex objectives, technical leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related field.
• 3–5+ years in software, cloud, or backend development.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and APIs.
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C#, C++, Go, or JS/TS.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Knowledge of testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing, and maintenance of cloud backend software and databases.
• Build interfaces between cloud backends, SDKs, middleware, and components.
• Work independently on complex objectives under guidance from the Director of Software.
• Provide technical leadership for cloud/backend initiatives.
• Design data interfaces and infrastructure for data analysis and app needs.
• Develop testing, validation, and troubleshooting protocols for cloud software.
