Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced cloud architect to advise NOAA MRMS teams on deployment pipelines, IaC, and unit testing in commercial cloud environments. You will help meet NWS Enterprise Cloud standards and optimize cloud budgets while supporting MRMS reanalysis workflows.

The role requires strong C++ development skills, Git, and experience with AWS/Azure, plus the ability to produce technical documentation and collaborate across a technical team.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in a technical or business discipline.
• 4+ years of professional and/or academic experience.
• C++ required.
• Experience with commercial cloud services (AWS/Azure).
• Advising on cloud architecture strategy and cost management.
• Software development with Git.
• Strong communication and technical writing.
• Ability to work in a technical team.
• Must complete IT security awareness course within one week of starting.
• Export control review for foreign nationals.
• Familiarity with meteorological datasets preferred.
• Perl, Python, and Bash preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise NSSL scientists and engineers on deployment pipelines, IaC, and unit tests for MRMS systems in the commercial cloud.
• Recommend approaches for meeting NWS Enterprise Cloud standards, including cloud budget and cost-optimization.
• Advise on and support optimized pipelines for MRMS reanalysis workflows in the commercial cloud.
• Provide technical documentation, including schematics, code repositories, and test reports regarding cloud budget impacts.
• Prepare quarterly status reports.
• Support NOAA MRMS cloud migration and optimization activities.
