The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor is seeking a Cloud Architect to design and maintain cloud architecture standards, reference designs, solution patterns, and technical roadmaps that support secure and scalable agency systems.

As part of the Information Technology Division, you will establish governance practices, evaluate risks and costs, and translate business needs into feasible cloud options while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Computer Engineering with six years IT experience including four years cloud design/implementation.
• Associate degree with seven years IT experience including five years cloud design/implementation.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Design cloud environments, workloads, integrations, and platform services.
• Establish governance for cloud resource provisioning, security baselines, access management, tagging, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and lifecycle controls.
• Evaluate architectural risks, cost drivers, operational impacts, and compliance considerations.
• Consult with managers, analysts, developers, infrastructure staff, vendors, and business stakeholders to translate business needs into feasible cloud architecture options.
• Review proposed technical solutions, integration approaches, migration plans, and vendor designs for alignment with agency standards and enterprise architecture direction.

We audit more than $100 billion in state assets and liabilities each year, bringing transparency to local, state, and federal government. Our reports and findings include recommendations that result in good government reforms. OSA thoroughly investigates alleged cases of fraud, waste, and abuse of taxpayer dollars, working with law enforcement on prosecution when warranted.

Description of Work

This position is designated as Exempt Policy-Making under G.S. 126-5(c)(3) and is considered an at-will appointment. The Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Cloud Architect to serve on within our Information Technology Division. In this role, you will get the opportunity to develop and maintain cloud architecture standards, reference designs, solution patterns, and technical roadmaps that support secure and scalable agency systems.

• Establish and promote governance practices for cloud resource provisioning, security baselines, access management, tagging, monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and lifecycle controls

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Salary Range: $105,341 - $184,345

• Ability to evaluate existing systems and recommend cloud migration, modernization, integration, and optimization approaches
• Knowledge of cloud security, identity and access management, network segmentation, data protection, monitoring, and compliance requirements for enterprise environments
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences and promote consistent architecture practices across agency technology initiatives

Minimum Education and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive IT experience including four years of experience related to cloud architecture design and/or implementation
• An associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive IT experience including five years of experience related to cloud architecture design and/or implementation
• An equivalent combination of education and experience
