Job summary

Mercy Health, Queen City Medical Center, is seeking a Lead RN/Charge Nurse to coordinate patient care on a designated unit. In collaboration with the Clinical Manager, you will optimize nursing practice and resource use to promote excellence in care and patient satisfaction.

The role requires RN licensure, BSN preferred, and active engagement in safety, quality, and interprofessional collaboration. Strong communication and mentoring skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred).
• Current RN license in state they are working or covered by compact.
• BLS (preferred upon hire, must obtain prior to entering patient care setting).
• Certifications required based on units overseen (PALS/ACLS/NRP/TNCC/ENPC/NB Certification preferred).

Responsibilities

• Adjusts the schedule and patient assignments to accommodate changes in acuity, patient population, resources & care design.
• Provides guidance of staff, clinical support, and oversees responsibility for the unit in the absence of the unit leader.
• Maintains current knowledge of environmental safety standards and infection control; utilizes supplies and equipment.
• Communicates effectively with patients and their families regarding nursing interventions and plan of care.
• Rounds on patients to evaluate safety, quality, and patient experience.
• Serves as a resource to staff, patients, and family members to ensure effective communication.
• Functions as a clinical resource and role model for staff; may serve as a preceptor.
• Engages in interprofessional practice to ensure care coordination and continuity of care.
• Communicates with other departments to resolve operational problems.
• Participates in ongoing quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.
• Facilitates patient placement, admission, transfer and discharge processes.
• Provides feedback and mentoring to nursing and support staff.
• Fosters teamwork, respectful communication, and conflict resolution.
