Job summary

The Cleveland Clinic Health System is hiring a Clinical Technician for the Emergency Department at the Main Campus in Cleveland. You will assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN and support vital sign checks, patient comfort, and monitoring tasks in a fast-paced ED setting.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification; nursing students may apply with BLS in place and rotation substitutions may apply.

Qualifications

• BLS Certification through AHA or Red Cross prior to hire.
• Nursing students must have BLS before hire.
• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience.
• Additional education may substitute for some or all experience.
• Nursing students with clinical rotations may substitute rotation for experience.
• Military medical experience will be considered.

The Main Campus Emergency Department provides top-quality care to patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Caregivers treat over 61,000 adult and pediatric patients annually, providing a critical link to healthcare for our community, the region and the world (through Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport). As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible.

A caregiver in this position worksdays, 11:00am—11:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as checking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheters.

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross before within new hire period

• Nursing Students are required to have BLS prior to hire

• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience

• *Additional education/training may substitute for some/all of the stated experience (i.e. mental health experience)

• *Nursing students who have recently completed a minimum of one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program may substitute the clinical rotation for the required experience

• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
