Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital is seeking a Clinical Technician – Med/Surg to join the 5 Seidman-Hillcrest Renal Unit. This night-shift role supports nursing staff by delivering direct patient care, monitoring patients, and assisting with treatments in a private 24-bed unit.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with personal care, phlebotomy, basic monitoring, and patient transport under supervision of an RN, with weekend/holiday rotation as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross within/hiring period.
• One year of recent patient care experience OR nursing student with clinical rotation OR military medical experience OR additional training.
• Competencies in professional, technical and clinical knowledge must be demonstrated.
• Math and reading comprehension at an 8th grade level.

Responsibilities

• Provide or assist with patient care under RN supervision (e.g., vital signs, weight, personal care).
• Assist with dressing changes, transfers/transport, and external monitoring devices.
• Perform phlebotomy, 12-lead ECGs, and other basic procedures as directed.
• Report abnormal findings to RN and help keep rooms clean and orderly.

Hillcrest Hospital’s 5 Seidman Renal Unit is a 24 private bed unit that provides care and treatment to acutely ill adult and geriatric patients who require inpatient or observation care. Patients in this unit have renal diseases, respiratory diseases, cardiac diseases, diabetes and other chronic diseases. This unit also specializes in peritoneal dialysis while also providing treatments such as cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, nutritional support, diagnostic testing and spiritual support. As Clinical Technician, you will play a direct role in our mission to continuously provide patients with the best healthcare experience possible.

A caregiver in this position works nights 6:30 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. with every other weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN, such as taking vital signs and weight, assisting patients with personal care, point of care testing, dressing changes, patient transfers/transport, applying external monitoring devices, further technical skills of phlebotomy, 12-lead ECG’s and removing urinary Foley Catheters.

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma/GED

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross upon or within new hire period *Nursing students must obtain prior to hire*

• One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation as part of an accredited Nursing School Program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) OR additional education/training (e.g., mental health)
• Competencies in both the professional, technical and clinical knowledge domains must be demonstrated in a safe, effective and efficient manner.
• Demonstrates proficiency in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an 8th grade level

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye‑hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
• Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
