Job summary

UNC Health Care in Raleigh, NC is seeking a patient care assistant to support the professional caregiver in delivering patient care, transport patients and equipment, and help set up and maintain patient rooms while handling clerical, transcription, and desk area duties.

Responsibilities include assisting physicians, reviewing care documentation, performing a range of clerical tasks, providing clinical support, direct personal patient care, and reinforcing patient education under supervision.

Qualifications

• English fluency in verbal and written communication.
• High school diploma or GED required; higher level degree may satisfy this requirement.
• Basic computer skills advisable.

Responsibilities

• Assists physicians and health care providers with routine exams and procedures, and procurement of equipment and supplies.
• Critically reviews patient care documentation and reports significant changes to RN or physician.
• Performs clerical tasks: organize workload, greet visitors, research information, review and revise orders, answer phones, transcribe orders, and maintain medical records; conducts quality audits and data entry.
• Provides clinical support: cleaning work areas, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting problems, changing linens, stocking supplies, transporting patients and specimens, and orienting new staff and students.
• Provides direct personal patient care per plan of care: bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation assistance, vital signs, and basic procedures as needed.
• Reinforces patient teaching and distributes education materials as requested by patients and staff.
